Electric Showers
Electric showers are rated in kilowatts (kW) and generally range between 7.5 to 10.8 kW. The power rating has a direct correlation to water flow rates. Whilst a 7.5 kW rated shower will deliver a functional bathing solution, the 10.8 kW model will provide a more luxurious enjoyable experience. Thermostatic control will provide consistent water temperatures during water pressure fluctuations caused by toilet flush, washing machines on a fill cycle for example. Some showers will have limescale protection and all quality showers will have a thermal cut-out stopping water flow immediately if the water gets too hot. Certain showers have greater installation flexibility with multiple power and water entry options, this is especially important when replacing an existing shower on a tile finished surface.
Locations containing a bath or shower are deemed to be a special location (BS 7671) and as such will require additional protection to be provided. All low voltage circuits serving this location Must be protected by a 30mA residual current device. (RCD).
